Partying Professors

Most workplaces have staff parties during Christmastime. Normally these consist of annoying carols, drunk co-workers, Secret Santas, and countless glances at one's wristwatch. Let me tell you, those aforementioned workplaces need to take a page out of my school's book! These teachers know how to get down!

The 23rd of December was the last day of school before Christmas vacation. It was a half-day, so the kids got out of school at 1:00 instead of 4:00... which just opened the doors for the professors to have a nice lunch and party hardy before vacations started. Now, the lunch didn't start until 2:00, so what, you ask, did everyone do for that awkward hour between the end of school and the lunch starting? We all went to a bar! Yes - welcome to Spain. Most people got wine or beer to start off the fiestas, and I got my usual Coke. Later, we went to the staff dinner/luncheon and had a nice Christmas Comida. We had shrimp (with eyeballs, antennae, and legs still on them), pimientos (like stuffed bell peppers, I think), and lamb. They had some cake for dessert and some coffee. Oh, and did I mention the booze? You would have thought that the teachers went to the bar beforehand for a reason, but no. There was no need to go to the bar to start off the party because there were bottles of wine and cans of beer on each table during the lunch, and there was champagne for the toast at the end.

Of course, since people were smoking the whole time and my eyes were starting to water, I was thinking Oh great, here's the toast, I can go home now. But no, as soon as the headmaster finished his speech, everyone stood up so they could chin chin their glasses with everyone in the room. Then, everyone stayed standing, drank their champagne, and one of the staff members rolled in his amp, hooked up his laptop, and dimmed the lights to start the dance party! It was pretty hysterical at that point because some of the teachers were pretty tipsy!
